Another year, another championship season. The Formula One 2025 season is finally upon us. All eyes turn to the land Down Under. From drivers, team principals, engineers, mechanics, and officials, Melbourne is ready for the Australian Grand Prix.
From the roar of engines to the challenging circuit, the Aussies will surely charge up the maiden race of the season with their famous electrifying atmosphere. As the F1 2025 Championship kicks off in Melbourne, here’s your ultimate guide to the Australian Grand Prix.
Albert Park Circuit, Melbourne
The pre-season in Bahrain provided a glimpse to Formula One fans, with many drivers featuring in new racing suits. Their skills and adjustments to the new car and engine will be tested at the Albert Park Circuit in Melbourne.
The Grand Prix starts with Practice 1 and Practice 2 on March 14, beginning at 12:30 PM Australian Eastern Daylight Time. March 15 will feature Practice 3, followed by the crucial Qualifying race. Twenty drivers will aim to clinch pole position for race day. It all comes down to March 16, as the race gets flagged off at 3 PM Melbourne local time.

The Albert Park Circuit, spanning 5.278 kilometers, has 14 turns, where drivers will battle it out over 58 laps on Sunday to make it to the podium. Last year, fans witnessed Ferrari dominance, as then-Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz Jr. crossed the chequered flag to win the 2024 Australian Grand Prix. His Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc came second, providing the Prancing Horse with a 1-2 finish on the podium.
McLaren’s Lando Norris finished third, followed by his teammate and hometown boy Oscar Piastri in fourth. The eventual winner of the 2024 season, Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen, joint-record Drivers’ Championship winner Lewis Hamilton, and his then-Mercedes teammate George Russell infamously crashed out of the race, making it a tough day for the Mercedes crew in the pit.
Melbourne and the Australian Grand Prix on the F1 Map
The one that makes the difference. Race circuits are not just about being the destination. On the contrary, the infrastructure, design, and planning of the circuit make it the destination for drivers to conquer.
Melbourne is no exception. It would be fair to say that the Albert Park Circuit in Melbourne has now become the premier venue to flag off a new F1 season. History books tell us that the Australian Grand Prix has been an F1 season opener 22 times (since 2024). But the Australian F1 chapter did not start with Melbourne. It began in the Adelaide era, where the Adelaide Street Circuit hosted the coveted Grand Prix from 1985 to 1995.

It was in 1996 that the relocation took place, and the Albert Park Circuit in Melbourne became the home of the famous Australian Grand Prix. However, the circuit has not always marked the commencement of a new F1 season. In 2006 and 2010, the Bahrain Grand Prix flagged off the new Formula One season. The 2020 and 2021 editions of the Australian Grand Prix were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
But those days are now in the history books. The 10 teams, featuring 20 drivers, will be eyeing the perfect start to the season, with the Drivers’ Championship and Constructors’ Championship at stake. The Aussie fans will bring their famous electrifying energy to galvanize the drivers as they get fueled by adrenaline on race day for what could be a historic F1 season.
