The Indiana Pacers pulled off a stunning game-winning four-point play against the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday night. With about four seconds left and the Pacers trailing 114-111, Tyrese Haliburton delivered a clutch moment. The play, reminiscent of an NFL-style design, saw Haliburton run a semi-wheel route down the left sideline, catch the inbound pass, and drill a three-pointer over Giannis Antetokounmpo. Antetokounmpo stepped into Haliburton’s landing space, drawing a crucial foul and setting up the game-changing and-1. Haliburton sank the free throw, sealing a thrilling 114-113 victory.
Haliburton later revealed that the Pacers had attempted a similar play against the Boston Celtics in the 2024 NBA Playoffs but failed to convert at the buzzer. That play was dubbed the “four-vertical set” online. This time, Indiana executed to perfection.

After advancing the ball to center court following a timeout, the Pacers aligned in a formation resembling a “shotgun set with four wide receivers.” One player inbounded the ball while the other four positioned behind halfcourt. Three players cut diagonally, clearing space for Haliburton. He slipped under screens, caught the pass, and drilled the deep shot. The play mirrors football concepts, where receivers create separation for a primary target.
Jenny Boucek crafted the NFL inspired play for the Pacers
The Pacers’ assistant coach, Jenny Boucek, crafted the play. A former WNBA player for the Cleveland Rockers and a University of Virginia standout, Boucek also won championships in Iceland. Since joining Rick Carlisle’s staff in 2021, she has been instrumental in refining players’ shooting mechanics by blending natural movements with shooting science.

This Central Division battle added another thrilling chapter to the Pacers-Bucks rivalry. The fourth quarter saw multiple lead changes, with Milwaukee momentarily pulling ahead after Giannis set up Gary Trent Jr. for a clutch corner three.
Both teams entered the game tied for fourth place, raising the stakes. If they meet in the first round of the 2025 NBA Playoffs, their history suggests a must-watch series.
