There’s a lot happening inside the fight business. UFC has gone back to London and there’s a brilliant card ready for UFC London. After a few more Fight Nights, we will gear up for UFC 314 with Alexander Volkanovski vs Diego Lopes, Michael Chandler vs Paddy Pimblett, and so much more. But all everyone’s talking about is when will we get to see Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall.
Dana White must’ve answered this question over a hundred times by now, but until the fans get an official announcement, they’re going to continue asking for the fight. Aspinall has been asking for an opportunity against arguably the greatest fighter of all time for a while. Meanwhile, the GOAT is not paying a lot of attention to the demands.
A lot of time has gone by and Aspinall has done a great job in pushing for the fight and keeping the buzz alive. While some believe that Jones is also doing his part by intentionally delaying it so there’s an unprecedented buzz when the fight happens. One man who can make people’s dreams come true recently spoke on it.
During a media interaction ahead of UFC London, Dana White said that the fight is happening. It’s just a matter of – When? He said, “I’ll tell you what I’ve been telling you since day one, the fight’s going to happen…It’s just a matter of when now and getting it signed and done and the fight will happen.”
Dana said that “it’s done but it’s not done,” enough to reveal details. So, a few more weeks of patience and we might be in for a treat from the boss man.
Tom Aspinall has no clarity over the Jon Jones fight
The Jones vs Aspinall rumors have been going on for a while. With no other fight in sight, Jones is likely to pick this up as his next. He was previously rumored to fight Alex Pereira if he moved up to heavyweight. However, since Pereira lost his last fight and the light heavyweight title, he’s likely to remain in that division and go for a rematch against Magomed Ankalaev to regain his title.
In the meantime, Aspinall is still waiting to get his name on the card next to Jones. During a recent appearance on One On One | MMA, he was asked about the possibility of that fight. Aspinall stated that he also knows as much as the NBA fans and media know about it. All he has heard from Dana has been positive.
He said, “I don’t know. I want it to, obviously. I think I’ve been talking about it for years now. In all honesty, I have been in rooms with…Dana, Hunter, the rest of them a few times and they’ve told me it’s happening and that’s all I can go off.” Despite waiting for this fight for over a year, Aspinall is still keeping his hope alive.
