For nearly four years, fight fans have been wanting to hear about the return of Conor McGregor. The Irish legend, following his fight against Dustin Poirier, which ended in a doctor stoppage, has not stepped foot inside the cage. Slowly, fans have started giving up on the hopes of ever seeing the Notorious fight again.
There have been some rumors about his potential fights. Once, we even got an official announcement out of UFC and the man himself. It was regarding his fight against Michael Chandler at the UFC 303 in June 2024.
Unfortunately, the scheduled fight couldn’t happen as Conor picked up an injury and had to take time off to recover. Since then, Conor has done everything but fight. The desperation among his fans has reached a point where they’d now consider him fighting just about anyone. The bar is so low that his internet jabs to YouTuber KSI also generate a lot of interest.
Now, KSI isn’t a stranger to boxing. Although two amateur and six professional fights under his belt don’t do much for his credibility, his fame is what makes him an interesting opponent. But in this case, Conor doesn’t need fame. Someone like KSI can’t do anything to make his stocks go up, so the competition should strictly be about the sport.
As per the 31-year-old, the UFC superstar has already said no to the offer. KSI recently made an appearance on Talk Tuah with Haliey Welch, where he was asked if he’d ever consider boxing Conor. He said, “I tried. It didn’t happen, he said, ‘Nah.’” KSI isn’t holding any grudges as he understands Conor has a lot going on in his life.
Will KSI consider fighting Conor McGregor in BKFC?
Conor has built several successful businesses over the last decade. From whiskey to a world-class pub, Conor has developed various ideas for his brand. In April 2024, he added another feather to his cap by acquiring part ownership in Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship. Conor and his company, McGregor Sports and Entertainment, now run the show with Conor being a major promoter of the business.
So, KSI was puzzled by the question, whether he’d like to fight Conor bare-knuckle. This could be a win-win situation as KSI would get his wish of fighting Conor, and the Irishman will bring a huge promotion to his company. However, it seems like KSI isn’t there yet as far as going against a seasoned fighter is concerned.
When asked if he’d step inside BKFC, he said, “Nah, I just don’t need to. I feel like, for me, I know my worth and over the past couple of months I’ve definitely understood what my worth is.” So, one potential fight, which wouldn’t have been against the best of opponents, but good enough to get Conor to fight again, has slipped through as well. The wait for Conor fans across the globe continues.
