A fight has never made a buzz this strong since Conor McGregor returned to the octagon to fight Donald Cerrone. Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall are doing everything right to make all the right noise. That assumption is with the condition that they are even offered this fight. Because Chael Sonnen has a completely different theory on it.
Sonnen, who has experienced what it’s like to fight Jon Jones, has made several comments on the possibility of this fight in the last few weeks. The room is divided between those who believe Jones is ducking the English fighter and those who think Jones shouldn’t fight him at all.
However, there is a huge audience, overlapping both sides of the discussion, who just want to see them fight. But it can only happen if there’s an offer. As per Chael Sonnen, Jones hasn’t been offered to fight Aspinall yet. The UFC legend made this shocking revelation after calling himself the “greatest insider” in the business.
He said, “Jon has not been offered that fight. That’s the monster in the closest people seem to not want to be true. There has not been a suggestion of a date or a venue. Not yet. In a phone call to Jon, where his opponent would be Tom (Aspinall), the undisputed title. If you believe that Jon Jones is refusing to do those things, you’re wrong. He’s not yet been presented with that offer.”
If we take Sonnen at his word, this new information puts everything under the microscope. Aspinall has been pushing for the fight, Jones has made his fair share of comments, and Dana White has promised the fight is happening. It’s pretty confusing as of now for outsiders.
Daniel Cormier advised Tom Aspinall for the Jon Jones fight
Aspinall is confident of his chances against arguably the greatest fighter of all time. He believes that he’ll be the one to bring Jones down from his throne. While the confidence is admirable, he isn’t the first one who has had this thought. Dozens of great fighters before him have tried to put that question mark on Jones’ legacy.
One of his greatest rivals, Daniel Cormier, recently refreshed his memory of fighting Jones. DC also advised Aspinall not to go into this fight with overconfidence. He said, “I’ll be honest with you, Chael. I thought I was gonna win both times. And I trained, I thought I was gonna win, I was certain of it…You’re in there fighting Jon Jones and you go, ‘He’s a little bit different than any other human being I’ve ever fought.”
As per DC, “When you get in there with that dude, don’t start rethinking things. Because when you start rethinking things in there…he’s gon’ run right through you.” So, when Jones’ biggest foe is offering such advice, Aspinall should at least be cautious. Because all Jones needs is one mistake from his opponents to turn it all in his favor. And even when they don’t make any mistakes, he still manages to find a way out.
