Keeping the tradition alive of bringing in a veteran receiver, the Baltimore Ravens signed 32-year-old wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins for a whopping $6M deal for a year. According to Jeff Zrebiac of The Athletic, the team signed WR Hopkins for $5M with a chance of $1M incentives. In the 2024 season, Hopkins started with the Tennessee Titans and, in the fifth-round pick, got traded to the Kansas City Chiefs. Now, for the 2025 season, he will join the former Titans teammate Derrick Henry and two-time MVP Lamar Jackson.
With 56 catches for 610 yards and five touchdowns in the 2024 season, Hopkins was at the lowest point in his career. His peak performance was from 2017 to 2020- when he averaged 107 catches, 1,380 yards, and nine touchdowns. Hopkins is popular for his hand size (10 inches), making him one of the best red zone threats in the NFL. He won’t be as productive as he was, but he would fit in perfectly with this offense as a No. 3 receiver behind Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman.
“We are happy to bring DeAndre Hopkins to the Ravens. D-Hop is a player whom we have competed against and admired for a long time. He fits our style of play and is another weapon for our offense. We are excited to watch him play and congratulate DeAndre and his family.”
Eric DeCosta, Baltimore Ravens General Manager
The Baltimore Ravens fans showed mixed reactions to this news. The general sentiment was warm and welcoming, wishing the veteran wide receiver a great season ahead. Some fans complimented Hopkins, saying that purple looks good on him. Meanwhile, there were Ravens fans who disliked signing Hopkins. They criticized this decision by saying that now the team has someone to drop the passes in a critical situation, and the team just paid him to do some cardio.
