We mix the statistical analysis with preseason insights.
NBA Rising Stars: Wings and Forwards
Zaccharie Risacher of Atlanta Hawks
The Spain-born French man was selected first overall in the 2024 NBA Draft. Zaccharie Risacher went through a learning curve throughout his rookie season. In his first 41 games, he averaged averaged 11.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists. He got his shooting at 41.3% from the field and 30.2% from beyond the arc.
However, as the season moved ahead, so did Risacher, who showed clear growth. In his final 34 games, his average increased to 13.7 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.1 assist. In this, he got 50.0% shooting and 40.7% from three-point range. The youngster turned 20 this April and is hyped to surpass 15 points per game in the coming season to cement his place as the wing Atlanta Hawks can center around, following their team reshuffling.
Bilal Coulibaly of Washington Wizards
The 20-year-old has quietly developed into one of the most complete young wings in the league. Drafted No.7 overall in 2023, Coulibaly posted averaged 12.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.4 assists across 59 games in the previous season.
But it’s his leap in efficiency, going from 43.5% to 48.2% shooting, that has coaches on their feet. With an improved decision-making along with some added muscle, Coulibaly is going to play a larger role in the rebuilding of the Washington Wizards squad.
Jaylen Wells of Memphis Grizzlies
Jaylen Wells went under the radar during his rookie season but still managed to impress the analysts with his versatility and sharp shooting. Wells is poised to see more minutes in 2025-26, with contributions as a secondary ball-handler and an artful scorer. His three-point shooting in preseason, which hovers near 38%, adds to his intrigue as Memphis Grizzlies relies on youth amidst the squad changes.
NBA Rising Stars: Guards and Playmakers
Jared McCain of Philadelphia 76ers
A standout from the 2024 draft, Jared McCain’s persistence and perimeter shooting have already drawn comparisons to some successful NBA combo guards, including the likes of Stephen Curry.
McCain averaged 15.3 points, 2.6 assists and 2.4 rebounds in 23 games. The Philadelphia 76ers are going through a youth movement. McCain is noted as a breakout candidate, especially if he gets to secure a consistent spot in the backcourt rotation.
Benedict Mathurin of Indiana Pacers
After two solid pro seasons, Benedict Mathurin is widely considered ready for a leap. In 2024-25, he posted an average of 16.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 72 games. But in the meantime, he was steadily making his defense and shot selection better for the Indiana Pacers.
Bryce Sensabaugh of Utah Jazz
While Bryce Sensabaugh had some inconsistent minutes in his rookie campaign, he impressed analysts in summer league and preseason with some efficient scoring spurts and clutch play. Analysts feel that he has the ability to attack mismatches and provide instant offense to the Utah Jazz.
