The 2025–26 NBA season is going to be dramatic, bringing new storylines. Rest assured, us basketball fans around the world are going to get plenty of action (and maybe some epic memes too). Starting from the preseason global tours to the ultimate decider in NBA Finals, the upcoming campaign is full of ‘can’t miss out on this’ events. Here’s your guide to the key dates in 2025-26 NBA Season, so that you stay on loop.
Key Dates In 2025–26 NBA Season: The Beginnings
The thrilling season begins on a global note. Our favorite NBA teams would be visiting Abu Dhabi, Melbourne, and Macao in early October for the preseason. Cometh the hour, cometh the moment.
The one we all wait for eagerly. The regular season starts off on October 21, 2025. All the 30 teams will be full of energy, optimistic in mind as they start the season on a blank slate. From the favorite to the unpredictable ones, all 30 of them would aim for the playoffs, followed by the postseason glory.
A major event taking place early in the calendar is the Emirates NBA Cup. The league’s unique in-season tournament will take place for the third time. Group play for the Cup commences from October 31 and ends on November 28.
All 30 teams are divided into six groups, where each group consists of five. These five in each group will lock horns for a spot in the single-elimination knockout rounds. The quarterfinals will take place on December 9-10, followed by the semifinals on December 13. Las Vegas will host the championship game on December 16.
The NBA will also celebrate its tradition of marquee matchups with special international games. This also includes the NBA Mexico City Game on November 1, that would feature the Detroit Pistons and Dallas Mavericks at the Arena CDMX.
All-Star Weekend and Playoffs
As winter begins, the spotlight is taken by the 2026 NBA All-Star Weekend, that is scheduled for February 13–15, 2026. For the first time, the event will take place at the shiny new Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, as the city looks forward to shining. Players from around the league display their talents, and us fans get to witness thrilling clashes and festivities. Traditionally speaking, the All-Star Game is also where breakout seasons are confirmed, and future MVPs look to make their mark.
All things come to an end. The regular season finishes on April 12, 2026. All eyes now focus on the NBA Play-In Tournament, which will be from April 14–17. Teams seeded between 7th to 10th in the Western and Eastern Conference fight for final spots in a daunting, do-or-die mini-tournament. Here, the affair just comes down to either win or go home.
Teams would aim to win, to qualify for the NBA Playoffs, which starts from April 18, 2026. This stage offers both the league’s heavyweights and dark horses the same opportunity. The platform gets set on a fresh note again, as they lock their eyes on a ticket to the finals.
The NBA Finals and NBA Draft
It ultimately comes down to the biggest game. This is where dream and reality is separated by the thinnest of lines between success and heartbreak. All the dreams of the championship reach its climaxing point with the NBA Finals. Game 1 starts from June 4, 2026, and could run through June 21 if a Game 7 is needed to separate the two-deserving teams and crown the winner as NBA Champions 2025-26. The winning team takes home the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy.
The end is the beginning, and the beginning is the end. Ultimately, after a long-haul season, the next generation of stars make their entry to the league with the highly anticipated 2026 NBA Draft. This will take place after the Finals, so typically around late June.
