Bronny James faces relentless scrutiny from NBA fans who claim his first-round draft pick by the Los Angeles Lakers stems solely from his father LeBron’s towering influence. Yet, the rookie launches a promising campaign to earn respect in his debut season. Bronny remains far from securing significant playing time, but the son of the NBA’s all-time leading scorer and still-thriving legend builds confidence with each appearance.
Meanwhile, former Lakers center Dwight Howard, during a lively chat on Podcast P with Paul George, a Wave Original, shed light on LeBron’s ambitions. Howard, who hasn’t retired and still ponders his next move, recalled a conversation with LeBron.
“I asked LeBron,” Howard said (at 1:15:03). “He said he wanted Bronny and he said he’s trying to get Bryce.
LeBron’s younger son, Bryce James, a senior at Sierra Canyon High School, has committed to Arizona.
“The last time I told LeBron he said, listen I’m trying to get Bronny and Bryce to be on the Lakers and I’m trying to get Savannah to be– he’s going to be the owner of the team so it’s a family affair, the whole James family,” Howard added.
Reports suggest Bryce might follow Bronny’s path and enter the NBA after his freshman year. If he goes undrafted, the Lakers could snap him up as a free agent—an appealing prospect.
For now, Bronny sharpens his skills in the G League with the South Bay Lakers, where his poise grows game by game. LeBron’s vision of a family legacy in Los Angeles gains traction.
Bronny James’ most well-rounded G League performance yet
On Saturday, Bronny James, the Lakers’ rising star, scored 24 points in South Bay’s 118-98 victory over the Valley Suns at UCLA Health Training Center. After his fourth 20-point outing in six G League regular season games, he proclaimed himself a “three-level” scorer. According to Heavy, Bronny told Clutchpoint’s Raj Chipalu post-game:
“I feel like I can score it on all three levels,” Bronny said. “I’m just taking everything that’s open for me.”
Bronny hit 10 of 16 field goals, also sank 4 of 6 shots from beyond the arc during his efficient 34 minutes on the court.
“Mainly trying to get downhill and get to the paint, draw some fouls,” Bronny added. “I can open up my jump shot … just take what the defense gives me. I wasn’t able to get all the way to the paint sometimes, so I gotta settle for the [midrange].”
Selected 55th overall by the Lakers, Bronny contributed five rebounds, six assists, two steals, and one block, marking his most well-rounded G League performance yet.
For context, South Bay’s previous victory came against the Suns on Feb. 7, when Bronny dropped 28 points in a 122-104 rout.
