26 year old Luka Doncic is no stranger to superstardom and the perks that come with it. Doncic has been a star even before he joined the NBA. During his stint with Real Madrid in the EuroLeague, Doncic was the league MVP, EuroLeague Champion, and had several other accolades to his name as well.
In 2018, when he entered the NBA Draft, Doncic was the third pick by the Hawks and was later sent to the Dallas Mavericks. Since then, he has only added to his status as one of the biggest names in the game and has brought in some more accolades.
However, there’s more to Luka Doncic beyond his startling reputation as an athlete. Young and talented players like Doncic often go through this phase where their entire identity is boxed as an athlete. They’re expected to live and die by the sport while doing everything in their power to win championships for their franchise.
But Doncic doesn’t want to let that be the only image on his canvas. While his commitment to the sport and the franchise he represents remains unquestionable, Doncic is a family man first. He recently went through a major change after being traded to the Lakers. Doncic had to uproot his life from Dallas and relocate with his family.
“I’m happy.. I have a little daughter, my family is good. People around me are good so that’s everything I want.”

When the superstar was asked about the same during a press conference, he said, “I’m happy…I have a little daughter, my family is good. People around me are good, so that’s everything I want.” Doncic got engaged to his longtime girlfriend Anamaria Goltes in July 2023. In December of 2023, the couple welcomed their daughter Gabriela into the world. So, even with all the changes happening in his career, family is Doncic’s first priority.
Sasa Doncic, father of Luka Doncic, reacted to his son’s trade
The Luka Doncic trade from Dallas was arguably one of the biggest and most shocking trades of all time. The NBA witnessed something of that magnitude after a very long time. Everyone, from fans, players, teams, to the names involved in the trade, was equally shocked. The news came out of nowhere and felt like a bad joke for the first few hours.
As time went by, people realized that Luka was really traded by the Mavs. Over time, everyone made their peace with it. However, Doncic’s father Sasa Doncic wasn’t going to let things go without addressing. While talking to a local network, he revealed that he was also upset by the trade and slammed the Mavs’ front office.
He said, “With this trade, the hypocrisy from the Mavs organization hurts me personally. I think Luka absolutely did not deserve this. He sacrificed a lot and truly respected Dallas.” He outlined how his son gave everything for the Mavericks franchise, playing long minutes despite being double-teamed all the time.
Sasa also talked about Doncic’s commitment to the local communities in Dallas and everything he did for them. All things considered, the Doncic family had all the reasons to be upset with the Mavs and their decision.
