The Kevin Durant trade rumor is gaining more traction each day. The 36-year-old has spent the past two years in Phoenix, and the rumor is that he is no longer interested in staying around. The main reason why KD is looking for a way out is the constant postseason failure. At this point in his career, he’d rather play for a team with championship potential.
There are several teams in contention to get him to sign on the dotted line. It’s likely that Durant would find a new home for himself in the offseason. Here is the list of teams that have the best chance to land the future Hall of Famer.
San Antonio Spurs
Kevin Durant’s trade to the San Antonio Spurs is at the top of most lists. As a veteran, he could uplift the whole Spurs squad with his invaluable knowledge of high-intensity games. And the duo of KD and Victor Wembanyama playing together would be a treat for the fans.
But other than that, Durant is still very effective at the age of 36. He played 62 games this season, averaging 26.6 points, six rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game. Durant’s shooting was impressive, too. He shot 52.7% from the field, 43% from the distance.
Market has never been an issue for Durant, so if the Spurs present a deal good enough for the Suns and KD, they’re likely going to land the two-time NBA Champion. Radio host John Gambadoro recently added to the buzz around this potential trade.
Somebody that KD knows and trusts, that was talking to KD, he mentioned the Spurs.”
Gambadoro said.
Even if that deal doesn’t materialize, Durant isn’t running out of options.
Minnesota Timberwolves
Kevin Durant joining the Timberwolves in possibly the last stretch of his career will give him a textbook ending. The face of the franchise, Anthony Edwards, considers him his favorite player of all time, and seeing KD with Ant would help the NBA capitalize on that.

As per Sam Amick and Jon Krawczynski, Durant joining the Timberwolves is possible, but only if KD is completely onboard. The Wolves wouldn’t like to reshuffle their roster, one that got them to back-to-back Conference Finals. The Suns, on the other hand, wouldn’t move forward with the plan if a suitable offer isn’t on the table. Both teams are counting on KD to be willing to join the Wolves.
New York Knicks
The Knicks rumor has also been around for a while. But it got the biggest push when Magic Johnson vouched for KD to join the New York Knicks. During an appearance on Get Up, Magic spoke on the Kevin Durant trade rumors. Magic believes that going to New York at this stage of his career would make perfect sense for KD.
Magic outlined that the Knicks are “too slow,” and if they wish to beat the Pacers or other strong teams in the East, then they will need someone like KD. The Lakers legend believes that KD can also solve the Knicks’ fourth-quarter crash-out problems. Another major benefit for the Knicks in this scenario would be that they will be able to allow Jalen Brunson to take some highly deserved rest.
Even at the age of 36, KD is very capable of leading the team’s offense while the other star player recharges.
Orlando Magic
The Orlando Magic recently made a major move by adding Desmond Bane to the roster. But that’s not the end of their problems. They have everything in the organization except someone with an exceptional shooting range. KD brings that to the table.
If the Magic consider the trade, they have players like Jonathan Isaac, Anthony Black, Goga Bitadze, and a first-round pick to offer. Although the likelihood of this trade isn’t much, Magic can prove to be the wildcard in the race to sign KD.
Denver Nuggets
The Denver Nuggets would be considered another wild card in this race. But if we strictly look from the perspective of Kevin Durant and what matters the most to him at this point in his career, joining the Nuggets is a great idea. KD, like most great players, would hope to end his career on a high note. Joining the Nuggets with prime Nikola Jokic can help him get his moment.

Playing alongside the Joker, Jamal Murray, Aaron Gordon, and more must be tempting.
The entire league is waiting patiently for Kevin Durant to make the final call. Wherever he decides to go is bound to make waves in the NBA media. And the team that’ll get him to sign will greatly benefit from the addition.
