Red Bull brought Gasly in for fresh soft tyres deep into the race. With space ahead, he could push without traffic. On lap seventy two he uncorked a one minute fourteen point two seven nine.
That stood as the fastest lap and delivered the extra point that often decides rows in the standings. He crossed the line in fifth, just behind the top four, and the day looked exactly like the plan on a whiteboard.
The top of the order told its own tale. Hamilton won after withstanding Verstappen and managing tyres. Vettel finished second, Bottas third, and Verstappen took fourth after a time penalty for an unsafe release.
Gasly slotted in next with points plus that purple lap. For a team that values both margins and moments, this was both.
What made Gasly’s run notable was the control. There was no need for risky lunges. No brushes with the guardrail. The car looked planted. The calls were clean.
