The strategy did not fail because Red Bull misunderstood the undercut. Norris had already escaped.
That distinction matters in 2026. If Verstappen trails a faster car, Red Bull cannot wait until the gap reaches four seconds. The team must attack while he remains close enough for the fresh-tyre advantage to change the order.
The decisive work begins before the stop
