Holthus made a statement on Monday, counting such claims as baseless and pointing out that throughout the regular season, the Buffalo Bills were running higher benefits of scoring drives from penalties than the Kansas City Chiefs.

In December 2023, Mahomes made a statement criticizing the NFL officials after a match his team played against the Buffalo Bills. This statement had cost him a penalty of $50,000. After the incident, Mahomes went on the records to express his regret regarding his statement and also stated that he was saddened that his emotions got the best of him.
